Exclusive Interview with Lackey…

Some insights into Lackey’s divorce with long term wetsuit sponsor Billabong and his new deal with fledgling wetsuit company Attica…

Q1. So Matt, bit of a new era for you, a bold move to leave the Bong you must be pretty excited, the new Attica suits look pretty sick what can you tell us about them?

Yeh leaving Billabong has been a good change, Attica suits are amazing, i seen the potential in them when i first seen the samples and i knew i wanted to be part of it, the materials are some crazy japan hyper super flex. But actually having input into the designs, the cuts and the color ways of the suits will be a good change from Billabong. When i was riding for Billabong i was seeing all these bodyboarding wetsuits coming out, and they were looking better! better colors and designs, so im amped to be apart of Attica.

What does their range of wetties consist of?

Everything from steamers all the way through to springs, and the summer collection is on the drawing board right now, so its all very interesting….

Q3.
Is there any chance of the “Lackey Pro Model wettie” in the future?

Hmmm i dont think so, im more so going to be involved in the whole range, making sure every piece is looking its best with top quality materials.

Q4. So the Attica team, is it gonna have any international riders or just Aussies for the moment?

Global!! there has been alot of interest worldwide right now, as well as some big name internationals riders taking interest, its early days right now, but Attica will be going global….

Q5. Its sick to see you on a soul bodyboarding label what does it mean to you?

It means when i walk down the street i actually feel like a bodyboarder rather than another surfer wearing Billabong.
